Charcoal Portrait of Maple - From Start to Finish

Charcoal Portrait of Maple - From Start to Finish

Tristan commissioned me to draw this charcoal portrait of the adorable Maple for his girlfriend Claire for Valentine's Day... isn't she sweet?! Because she's so light and fluffy looking I used a mixture of light and medium charcoal for her fur and then dark charcoal to get some more dramatic detail around her gorgeous big eyes and nose. She was done as a medium sized sketch and she took around six hours to draw. I put her in a blue mount as that is Claire's favourite colour and Tristan also asked me to frame her in a white frame. Charcoal Portrait of Cassie - From Start to Finish

Maggie and Mike commissioned me to draw the beautiful little terrier Cassie for their daughter Emily's birthday. The photograph they had of Cassie was so lovely and detailed and we wanted to get her full body into the portrait so we decided to go for the large 11" x 14" portrait size. Cassie took around twenty hours to complete and I finished the drawing off with a striking black mount. "Maggie and I are delighted with your lovely drawing of Cassie, it captures her perfectly. I am sure Emily will be delighted too. You have such a talent - well...

Charcoal Portrait of Hadley and Hudson - From Start to Finish

The adorable and fluffy Hadley and Hudson were commissioned by Claire at Jets Doggy Day Care who wanted another Christmas gift for a customer. Claire managed to send me a photo of the two brothers together so I just moved them a bit closer to one another and improvised on Hadley's tail in order to get them to fit into the smaller portrait size. I was really pleased with how they turned out. They took around five hours to complete.

Sadie was one of my commissions for Claire from Jets Doggy Day Care - she wanted Christmas presents for her customers! It was fun drawing Sadie from such a cute photo. She was drawn as a small charcoal portrait sketch and completed with an off-white textured mount. Apparently there were tears when she was received! You can see her developing in the below video:

Charcoal Portrait of Sparrow the Wire Haired Dachshund - From Start to Finish

Sparrow was my second commission from the lovely Sue - she had previously asked me to draw her greyhound Mollie who had sadly died in 2017. After Sparrow gave birth to puppies in late 2017, her owner who was a friend of Sue's kindly gave one of them to Sue after she lost Mollie. Sue wanted me to draw a portrait of Sparrow to give her friend as a thank you gift. Sparrow was such a pleasure to draw - just look at those soulful eyes! I drew her as a medium sized portrait sketch and displayed her in...
